Dharma Chakra (Wheels) flanked by Deer (representing the students of Buddha) are placed on all temples to commemorate the commencment of Buddha's teaching. This ornament will command the western entrance to the temple.

When Buddha became enlightened, he retreated to an isolated place. The gods Brahma and Indra requested him to teach by offering a golden wheel with a thousand spokes and a right-turning conch shell. a

Just as Brahma offered the golden wheel, two deer appeared from the forest and gazed at the wheel. The Wheel signifies Buddha's turning of the Wheel of the Dharma and the deer represent his students who delight in the Dharma. The stance of the deer is significant: their up-turned faces symbolise listening, their attentive gaze reflection, and their reclining posture, meditation.

The names of all sponsors will be included on the scroll to be enshrined in the temple once it is complete. You can sponsor this Dharma Wheel and Deer in your name, the name of a loved one or of somebody who has passed away, creating a connection with the benefit that will come from this Temple through the ages.
